Have you read part one yet to help you choose your keywords?
So you know what your keywords are going to be now. You've identified a word you can use to break into the global market. How do you use it?
There are 3 main areas where the keyword should be inserted:
1) Meta Tags
Meta tags are webpage code which help tell search engines what your site is about. Meta tags can have a variety of different content in them, but for the moment we are interested in three: Title, Keywords and Description.
Here is an example of the sort of code you should put in your meta tags:
<meta name="TITLE" content="Your title hear. Make sure to include your keywords at least once or twice">
<meta name="DESCRIPTION"content="A description of your site, as it will appear on a search engine. Make sure to include your keywords at least once or twice.">
<meta name="KEYWORDS" content="Your keywords. List them each with a comma to separate them, you can also list phrases here, and common variations on a keyword. eg: make, money, make money, making money - but be careful not to overdo it too much as you will get penalized. Anything less than 20 and you should be ok.">
Meta tags are one of the first places a search engine looks for nformation about your site, so make sure your keywords are up there.
2) The Text
This is the main text of your website. It can also include the links in your navigation bar. Basically you should be looking to include your keyword as often as possible, whilst still making the text legible.
There used to be a trick, whereby you wrote your keywords hundreds of times over in a font colour that was the same as the background. That way the search engine would see the keywords, but a user can't. You still see this trick being used desperately on cheaper websites sometimes, however it does not work and search engines will penalize you if you do it.
3) The domain name
The domain name is the name you type in to get to your site - www.moneycrafter.com for example. It is the final, and very effective place you can put your keywords. If you haven't picked your name yet, bear in mind that if you include a keyword in your name it will boost your rankings for that keyword a lot.
So, that's all of the best places to put your keywords. Sometimes when you register with a search engine they will ask you for keywords, so have them ready to put in then too. This is not the end of Search Engine Optimization however, as there are many other tips such as updated content and text position still to go through. Watch out for them in our next article.
