We've established that you need a lot of good pages linking back to yours to get a good page ranking. One of the most effective ways of doing that is writing articles

An article directory is basically a resource for webmasters to get free content. A smart webmaster, who needs a lot of content and can't be bothered to write it for themselves, will go to an article directory where they can copy and paste an article free of charge onto their site. The only catch? They have to include a link to the writer with the article.

This means that if you write a few useful articles and send them to article directories, you can soon get 100's of links back to your site.

Suggestions

  • Write short articles, 300-400 words long, which are original and cover the niche that your website is in.
  • Don't bother trying to spam with articles. The search engines won't penalize you for this (yet) but they won't list you any higher. Your only way to search engine fame is to write articles sufficiently well to get other people to use them
  • As an example, if you submit an article to 100 directories and nobody uses it, Google will assume it's spam and give that page a score of 0 links. If you submit it to 100 directories, and 25 people link to it, Google will score the page a massive 125 links!
  • Writing articles isn't too difficult, browse through a few directories to get a feel for how to write the articles
